Angles Camp 2006 Tournament

March 11, 2006
Story by Terri Tanner

Snow flurries and chilling temperatures couldn't deter the 133 youth shooters who turned out for the SCTP league kick-off competition in Angels Camp on Saturday, March 11th.
What was quickly nicknamed the "blizzard shoot of 2006" was well attended despite about 9 inches of snow at Angels Gun Club.
Team Angels Camp hosted this event which had clubs from Sacramento, Auburn, Livermore, Amador and Stockton represented with youth ranging in ages from 8 to 18.

Many of the shooters had to be rerouted on their way to Angels Camp due to downed trees and road conditions. "These kids love to compete and by being here today they prove how dedicated they are to this sport." Said Angels coach Dave Tanner of the great turn-out the event drew. He went on to say that while shooting in the snow was a first time experience for the majority of these youngsters, they enjoyed the experience, especially the snowball fights in between rounds.

For the Senior Experienced event, Steven Evans of Stockton (99 )edged out older brother Bill in a shoot off to take the gold medal. Bill Evans took the silver (99) and Ryan Harper of Angels Camp (97) won the bronze after a shoot off with fellow team mate Vincent Lavaroni.
In the Senior Novice division, Dylan Muetterties of Angels Camp (96) took the gold, Leif Simonson (95) and Jeff Butler (90) both of Livermore took the bronze.
Sacramento swept the Junior Experience division with Drew Premock (94), Drake Llamas (85), and Kevin Imura (76).
In the Junior Novice division Billy Slane (98) of Auburn took the gold, Bret Johnson (95) of Amador A&A took the silver, and Patrick Teixeira (89) took the bronze.
The Rookies weighed in as follows: Kolby LeSieur (76) and Cameron Penn (73) both of Sacramento took the gold and silver, and Shawn Glass (61) of Angels Camp took the bronze.

The shoot was dedicated to Angels team member John Winings, Jr. who has been hospitalized for several weeks due to a skateboarding accident. Angel's team members wore special orange ribbons in support of Winings and his recovery. All the participants also signed a "get well" poster that will be delivered to Winings at the hospital.

Next league shoot will be March 25th at Waterloo Gun and Bocce Club in Stockton.
